In the north of Mallorca, just north of Puerto Alcúdia, Club de Golf Alcanada is a beautiful 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones and his son, and inaugurated in 2003. It’s well-located for serious golfers staying in the holiday resorts of Alcúdia or Puerto Pollensa, but feels a world away from the bustle of the resorts.
Club de Golf Alcanada has well-placed 58 greenside and fairway bunkers, challenging greens, some difficult but fair tee shots (including right and left dog legs), and a wide variety of holes. All in all, experienced golfers should find this course a decent challenge – particularly the 7th (par 5) and 16th (par 4) holes.
The course is wide and hilly with glorious views from every hole over the Bay of Alcúdia and the Alcanada lighthouse island, with their backdrop of the Sierra de Llevant. The mature pine and olive trees and smooth rolling fairways belie what is a relatively new course.
Practice facilities include a roofed driving range and short-game area and, for those wanting to improve their game, the Dost Golf School is staffed by multilingual PGA instructors and equipped with video room. The clubhouse is a 400-year-old Mallorcan mansion, housing the spacious Club de Golf Alcanada Restaurant, (the excellent – and very popular – sister restaurant is a few minutes’ drive away, with a terrace right by the Mediterranean, and offers the same cuisine).
For a serious game of golf on an immaculate 18-hole course, this is one not to miss on a visit to Mallorca.
The pro shop sells golf fashions and equipment from brands including Bogner, Nuni, and Cutter & Buck. Buggies are equipped with GPS.
