While we are used to having our local whole food shop just down the road in the UK, Germany or Ireland, finding a supplier in Mallorca to get your favourite ingredients for a healthy diet can be a challenge.
Sure, vegetables are locally grown and of excellent quality, but only a small share is organically grown. However, the trend towards healthy nutrition has arrived on the island and you will find all you need, once you know where to go!
Yerbabuena Espai close to Calle Oms in the centre of Palma is a real discovery. Dedicated to a healthy food supplies you will find everything here that you need: seeds, sprouts, organic vegetables, international organic brands, wholemeal pasta, a wide variety of rice to choose from and very attentive staff who are happy to advise you! They have a small café where you can enjoy vegetarian salads and snacks, fresh wholemeal bread freshly baked every day, cosmetics, herbs and a bookshop with a vast selection of guidebooks for a healthier way of life. The Manacor market has a small offshoot on the main Plaza, where organic food, gluten free bread and salsas, honey and lots more are offered every Saturday from 09:00 to 13:00 hours directly from the producer.
Finally, the “big” Corte Ingles on Palma’s Avenidas has opened an extensive and very well selected whole food section as part of their supermarket in the basement. A smaller selection is also available in the Jaime III store.
