About Lycée Français de Palma
The French Lycee in Palma has been in operation since 1975 and currently has over 400 pupils enrolled. The majority of pupils are French speakers although this is not a prerequisite to attend the school. The lycee offers education for 2 to 18 year olds.
Lycée Français de Palma
The school is part of the Mission Laique Française network of schools and is approved by both the Spanish and French Ministries of Education.
The lycee is currently located in El Terreno, Palma, but will be moving to new purpose built facilities in Sa Teulera in the next year.
The lycee follows the French national curriculum and students ultimately achieve the baccalaureat. However, for those wanting to attend Spanish universities, the also receive a grade in the Spanish Selectividad system, without having to take the exams. This grade is based on their performance in the baccalaureat.
It is run just as any school in France would be, with French being the main teaching language but, in keeping with the school’s motto ‘4 languages, 3 cultures’, children start learning Spanish and English from age 3, and Catalan is taught from age 6. A few subjects are taught in Spanish, by Spanish teachers.
The school aims to instill key values of respect, solidarity and citizenship in all its students, and parents are encouraged to take an active interest in their children’s learning.
The school endeavours to ensure there are less than 30 pupils per class and that each student receives personalised attention.
The location in the narrow streets of El Terreno means that outdoor facilities are limited at present but this will all change when the school moves into its new premises next year where it will enjoy state of the art facilities.

The enrollment fee, lunch, text books and school outings are all extra.
French parents can apply for bursaries through the French consulate.
The school is tucked away in the small streets of El Terreno at the western edge of Palma, close to Porto Pi and Club de Mar. It is convenient for those who live within walking distance but parking in this area can be tricky and the closest buses stop on Avenida Joan Miro. Marivent, La Bonanova and Genova are all pleasant residential areas close to the school.
The new purpose built school will be located in Sa Teulera.
Facilities close to the school
The woods and walking trails of the Bellver Castle are very close to the school and the shopping centre of Porto Pi is a few minutes’ drive away. El Terreno sits above the Paseo Maritimo with its marinas, restaurants and cycling track and is very close to the Via Cintura ring road around the city.
