Mallorca’s top chefs would have had November 22nd ringed in their calendars: it was the date that the Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal 2013 revealed which restaurants had had their cuisine recognised by the famous red book. The prestigious Michelin stars – the Oscars of the culinary world – were announced at a gala dinner at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid.
Michelin’s star awards for Mallorca revealed the consistency of the island’s successful restaurants. The same five to be awarded one star last year have retained the star for this:
- Es Fum, Costa d’en Blanes – Thomas Kahl
- Zaranda, Hilton Sa Torre Mallorca, Llucmajor – Fernando P Arellano
- Es Molí den Bou, Sa Coma – Tomeu Caldentey
- Restaurante Jardín – Macarena de Castro
- Es Raco d’es Teix, Deià – Josef Sauerschell
There was also good news for three other Mallorca restaurants, which were newly awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2013 – recognition of “high quality, affordable cuisine”. abcMallorca congratulates Bens d’Avall Club de Mar (Palma), Joan Marc (Inca), and Son Tomás in Banyalbufar.
The Michelin Guide Spain and Portugal 2013 includes seven three-star, 17 two-star, and 123 one-star restaurants – including the five Michelin one-star restaurants in Mallorca.
