The Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) has published the results of their latest study about the use of bicycles in big cities.
Almost 4 of every every 10 (37%) residents of Palma use a bicycle at least once a week. The cities with the highest use of bikes are Valencia and Victoria with 47% and 46% of the population using bikes as their transportation method.
In Palma, 76% of the population thinks that nice weather is a positive factor to ride a bicycle and only 21% thinks that there are good combination possibilities of public transport and bicycles.
A 62% of the population considers that Palma offers satisfactory general conditions to ride bikes.
The cities with the lowest use of bicycles as the transportation choice are Bilbao, Madrid and Las Palmas with 17%, 19% and 23%.
The OCU emphasized on the fact that the use of bicycles contributes in an important way to the improvement of traffic and is an easy way to have a healthier lifestyle and reduce contamination. The Organisation took the opportunity to request more and better cyclist roads in the main cities, more practical and secure parking possibilities and improving and promoting the combined use of public transportation and bicycle use.
