Carin Isgard came from Stockholm to Mallorca. She had worked in business, sales, marketing and real estate, too. When she arrived in Palma, she started working at a real estate agent and after having spent some time in the business, she and a former colleague decided to innovate in this area.“Nobody was taking care of long-term rentals, so we thought, we would just take over. And then Rent a Home Mallorca was born,” says Carin.
Rent a Home Mallorca started when a lot of agencies were going through hard times, but the firm not only had a good start, it also grew and succeeded. “It’s been five very hard years, but in spite of that, we have a very good name.
On the island, you face fierce rivals and we are a five-member company with four girls; so, we had to prove ourselves in many different ways,” Carin remarks. To recruit the members of this primarily female team, Carin has carefully chosen every single one. For her, it has many advantages to be known as “these nice blonde ‘chicas’”; nevertheless, every member of the team has the ability to adapt to the customer’s needs and create a bond with them.
According to Carin, although there is a wide market when it comes to properties, entering the real estate scene is not at all easy. There is a lot of material to work with, but to get the best locations and know the right people to buy from, or to sell to, are things that need to be developed. Mallorcan owners tend to protect their properties, because it’s their island, their properties and their networking, and the key is to be respectful. “Once they open the door, it’s really to their whole family,” Carin tells. “They just take care of who they let in.”
“We are a modern, professional, reliable and happy team. I think everyone at the office is really positive and that’s what our service is all about. If the customer is looking for something ‘impossible’, for us this just does not exist; you can find it, if you have the right approach and attitude. I think people prefer working with people who are happy and positive,” says Carin.
Rent a Home and Buy a Home Mallorca offers properties of what they call “the upper-mid” and “the top segment”. They don’t do luxury. From a very small studio for 70,000€ – 80,000€ to a comfortable penthouse for 1.5 million euros, the agency works, among many others, with a lot of Scandinavian customers who are interested in buying or in long-term rentals. “I think we all are very good at adapting ourselves to different customers and budgets. This means we deal with everybody in the same way, we aren’t snobbish. It’s always an important decision for a person to buy or rent a home and you have to respect your customers, devote yourself to working and exert your responsibility,” explains Carin.
For the future, Carin wants Rent a Home and Buy a Home Mallorca to continue growing, in the same way the property market on Mallorca does. “There are lots of different ways to embrace a progressive attitude towards life and business, because you can always expand. We run a service-oriented firm, and this is the best chance for guaranteeing good quality properties in wonderful locations and, of course, remaining happy”.
Carin may not have achieved her goal of working less, but she clearly loves what she’s doing.
