The Dutch couple Martin and Roswitha Specht realised their dream when they took over the restaurant “The Rose” in Puigpunyent five years ago. Martin enjoyed cooking ever since he was a little boy and his wife is a charming host who gives her guest a very warm welcome.

The Rose is specialising in international cuisine and Martin is preparing Italian classics with the same expertise as Bavarian specialities and Japanese sushi. You can choose from the main menu which is changing seasonally or the week’s menu, from which we tried the Sushi and the steak tartar as starters, when we visited the restaurant. Both were delicious, the sushi in fact among the best we’ve tasted on the island. Quite unusual and a very nice idea were the individual dressings of the salads, which perfectly matched each of the dishes. Our main courses, rabbit with dates and duck breast a l’Orange proved to be a very good choice as well. The rabbit was devine, juicy and tender, accompanied by a delicous aromatic sauce and creamy au gratin potatoes with a tasty crust. Just as the rabbit, the duck breast came with a mouthwatering sauce, which showed once again the chef’s great talent.

As the portions are generous, we decided to share one dessert. The chocolate ice cream surprise perfectly deserved its name: one scoop of creamy dark choclate ice cream with a twist of chilli, the other one gentle and fruity with cranberry- chocolate-flavour. „The Rose” is friendly and inviting without being overly sophisticated. The terrace is perfectly quiet with nice green surroundings, the parlours are comfortable and nicely decorated. The wine menu offers many local Mallorcan wines and a fine selection of wines from the mainland and there is an extra menu with light snacks and baguettes at lunchtime.
