Once upon a time in a small town, a child was born to a carpenter father and his young bride. Life was tough for the family, and as the unemployed father suffered more and more of life’s hardships and disappointments he turned to alcohol to soothe his troubled mind. For the little boy and his brothers, hunger was a frequent ache in their stomachs. Nights of anger and despair became the norm, until their concerned grandmother intervened and asked the state to help.
The boy and his brothers were given a new home, a new beginning and some much needed love and kindness. The young boy flourished in this caring environment and the talents which could have been easily overlooked were nurtured and developed, and so he had the chance. The opportunity to be the best that he could be. To contribute to society. To make a difference in the world. To make us proud. His name is Joan Ávila Fuster and you can read his story.
Every child deserves a chance and to know that they’re cared for.
Find out how you can show you care by Sponsoring a Christmas present for one of the 325 children in state homes on the island. By contributing a small amount you will do more to capture the elusive Spirit of Christmas than a lifetime of frenzied consumerism and festive parties.
We wish you a world of peace and joy in your heart this holiday season.
