Gourmet Issue
Passion for Gastronomy is part of the new image and logo for Palma and rightly so. Not only Palma but also the whole island offers amazing options for sophisticated diners. This edition of abcMallorca is full of recommendations. Meet our favourite chefs in our special feature Simply the Best on page 58; Mallorca’s Top Tables gives you a round-up of great restaurants, whether you are dreaming of a seaside location or a country estate tucked away in the hills. We also meet recently awarded Michelin star chef – Macarena de Castro at Restaurante Jardín in Puerto Alcúdia.
Highly experienced sommelier Patrick Paulen gives us an insight into some of the best local wines for various occasions, and he says ”there are enough types of wines on the island to cover any kind of meal, gift or wine preference.” This is a topic very close to my heart. Whether you’re eating out, buying a gift to take to friends who have invited you to dinner, or are buying wine in the supermarket to drink at home –please think about buying a locally produced wine.
There are over 60 bodegas on the island. Many are small family businesses that truly put their heart and soul into producing the best wine possible – so please buy local and if you don’t see a good selection of Mallorcan wines on offer – ask the waiter, why not? The quality of local wine is fantastic and it really is all of our responsibilities to support this important industry so it can grow and prosper in the future.
Another initiative that we think is worth supporting is the work Gemma Bes and her partners are doing at Ametlla+ to preserve the local almond-farming; read more on page 78.
And in the Luxury Lifestyle section you will find a list of my favourite restaurants worldwide. And for all you Yummy Mummies – I hope you will find some useful tips on surviving and thriving as the perfect working mum!
