The September issue is one of the most exciting of the year for us. It is the start of the new season, its theme allows us to express our cultural perspectives – and it’s a licence to push the boundaries and create a new identity. We ponder for months about the contents and the photo-shoots, who to interview and what to include, so that The Culture Issue has a yearlong shelf life.
Take inspiration from Hubert Feil, who is stopping at nothing to ensure that Palma is crowned European Capital of Culture – and that is in spite of having little local political support.
We talk to Victoria Aguiló about her role as gallerist in these challenging times, and we meet Pedro Serra, one of the greatest patrons of the local art world and founder of the new museum Can Prunera in Sóller. We visited Es Baluard – one of the most important art galleries on the island – to provide the backdrop for our fashion shoot “Art in Forms”, featuring the new winter collection from top local designer José Miró.
We had a lot of fun producing the jewellery feature shoot “All About Me”, by artist and photographer Natxo Bassols Salles. And speaking about me, our Opinion article provides really good food for thought on a subject close to many people’s hearts these days: social networks such as Facebook and twitter; Cullen believes,
Social media one of the greatest forms of self-obsession, and she may well be right.
The Last Word gives my opinion of the language obstacles put in the way of tourists being able to appreciate fully some of our major attractions, which can ultimately have a negative impact on our economic prospects. The debate is sure to continue for many years to come!
We hope you have as much fun reading abcMallorca as we have had producing it!
Have a great September!
