Over a long lunch recently with some friends, we were discussing the theme of this month’s issue. Before doing my research I would have said glamour and beauty were synonymous, but this is not necessarily the case. We agreed that there are many people who are considered beautiful, but not glamorous. Why? Because glamour is about more than just beauty: it is about attitude, charm, self-confidence, having an air of allurement and excitement – it’s the whole package. Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diane, George Clooney and Frank Sinatra are glamour icons. But selecting modern-day female stars who exude glamour is not such an easy task – as I discovered with my friends.
Despite the difficulty, we have managed to find what I believe are fantastic examples of glamorous people living in Mallorca.
Our in conversation with Sabine Christiansen gives a wonderful insight into the views of a major political journalist, whom I have had the pleasure to meet on occasion, and who goes well beyond the surface of glamour to a depth that has made her a- household name in Germany.
The real life story is about a good friend, Victoria McManaman, who oozes glamour from the way she enters a room, to her captivating personality, genuine warmth and charm – even Frank is under her spell! A gentleman who is alluring, not just because of his good looks and intellectual mind but also the amazing jewellery he creates, is Thomas de Diego.
Our fashion shoot was inspired by the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s – a throwback to the good old days of 1961 – with our own Audrey Hepburn, clothes and jewels to create the perfect glamour setting.
We have just launched a campaign ‘Sponsor a Present’, to ensure that each child living in state homes on the island receives at least one present this Christmas. You can help by putting at least €50 in an envelope, with your name and email address, and sending it to our office. Help us to bring a little joy to those who need it this Christmas.
Many thanks for your support.
