Following 20 years of teaching, researching and working around the world, Inge Magne has settled on Mallorca.
Her office is like an art gallery. Large paintings and photographs decorate the walls of her luminous studio situated in the southwest of Mallorca in the area known as Bendinat. Here, a relaxed and smiling Inge Magne welcomes you to her creative space.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Inge discovered her passion at a very young age. As a dentist’s daughter, much of her childhood was enjoyed in her parents’ dental practice. For Inge, playing with plaster and silicon was much more fun than going to the playground.
Her interest in aesthetic dentistry developed as her passion and interest in art increased. After years of research, countless conferences and the study of veneers in Switzerland, Inge was asked by the University of Southern California to teach aesthetic dentistry.
“It’s incredible what a smile can do for a person. Not only visually, but on an emotional and spiritual level too,” she says.
Despite the waiting list of 2-3 months for more intricate cases, and with patients flying in from London, Paris, Bulgaria, Russia and Sweden, Inge’s commitment and dedication to each individual remains as high as it was on day one.
“On the Balearic Islands I work exclusively with DentaCare. I have known Dr. Peter Degano for years and I used to travel here for specific cases to work with his team. Nowadays I only work with patients that his team refers me or the ones that know me directly from previous work,” she says.
From teeth discolorations caused by food or toxins, to chips, breaks or missing teeth, Inge tailor-makes every ceramic prosthesis.
Once the procedure has been agreed between the aesthetic dentist and her patient, she gets down to work – using her studio´s space, inspiration and tranquillity to create each set of veneers, like an artist creating a masterpiece.
“Every tooth, as well as every person, is unique. This is why creativity is my only weapon,” Inge explains. “Once the tests and moulds are done, I sit in front of 30 different ceramic pigments and I build the veneers, reproducing every detail of a set of healthy teeth.”
Inge works on the translucency, transparency, texture, shape and appearance to sculpt one tooth after another. The treatments she performs to improve a smile are minimally invasive, painless and effective. Indeed, she continues to perform studies on her first patients to track discolouration, change in shape, texture or damage.
“Among other things, what differentiates me from my colleagues, is the passion I put into my work,” says Inge. “Every single one of my creations has a part of my heart in it, and there is nothing that makes me happier than seeing an external smile that also comes from within.”
With this passion, Inge has worked on numerous cases, including celebrities. ‘Die Hard’s’ protagonist Bruce Willis was filming a movie in LA some years ago, when he went to a dentist who decided to file his teeth. When the very expensive and painful treatment was done, the actor could hardly recognize himself. Willis went back to filming and his producer looked at him and said: “Well, there is no way we can put you on screen now”. The A-list celebrity then came to Inge. The amount of unnecessary dental treatment was done, but there was a way back to the natural look of his smile. “I couldn’t believe what the other dentist had done, it is not always necessary to be so invasive. My motto is to stick to nature. Teeth are a part of our basic structure and there are many ways to fix them without being to severe”, she says.
Having moved to Mallorca, this dedicated aesthetic dentist believes she has finally found her place. Every day the cosmopolitan island feeds her curiosity by offering people, stories and patients of all kinds.
And as long as Inge continues to find new challenges on the island, Mallorca’s smiles will continue to beam.
