About American International School of Mallorca
The American International School of Mallorca will open its doors to middle and high school students (ages 12 to 18) in September 2016. Part of the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, this ultra-modern, purpose built school caters to secondary school students wanting to pursue a professional tennis career, as well as those simply seeking a private, international education. Boarding facilities are available.
AISM is being set up under the guidance of the Academy International School and will offer education in English to girls and boys of all nationalities.
The school will initially cater to 150 students, although there are plans to expand capacity in the near future.
Based on the American education system, the curriculum is designed around the AERO (American Education Reaches Out) framework using the Common Core Standards of the American Educational System, to ensure a sequential and age- appropriate education.
The language of teaching is English and teachers are all native speakers. The staff strives to identify and develop each child’s strengths, and work with them to overcome their weaknesses.
Classroom learning is complemented by a variety of academic clubs and field trips, and a first class sports programme.
Core subjects include English/language arts, maths, science, social studies and physical education, along with elective courses in foreign languages, art, drama and technology.
Middle School students are required to take the three Spanish regular programme subjects (Spanish language and literature, history of Spain and Catalán). In the senior school Spanish as a foregin language is studied.
All students graduate with an American High School diploma and will also have the option of obtaining the Spanish system equivalent, enabling them to apply to universities in Spain, the US or elsewhere in the world.
The school’s philosophy is one of education in its broadest sense and incorporates academic, social and emotional development. Each child is valued for their contributions in the classroom, on the sports ground, in the arts and for their individual personalities.
A PE, nutrition and wellbeing programme, designed in line with Rafa Nadal’s values, helps children develop positive habits and healthy lifestyle.
The Rafa Nadal Sports Centre has state of the art sports facilities. These include 26 tennis courts with different surfaces, an outdoor and an indoor pool, 7 padel tennis courts, 2 squash courts, a multipurpose sports ground, and a sports equipment shop.
