Interior design is one of the oldest artistic forms in human history. Already more than 30,000 years ago, cavemen began to decorate their “own four walls” with hunting scenes and animal motifs. Over the centuries, the embellishment of walls, ceilings, and floors has evolved into an important form of art.
A good example of this development is the concept gallery VJP Art & Design from German art director Vanessa Jasmin Panné. The qualified designer and photographer shows her very personal concept of modern interior design in her showroom, housed in the impressive business centre East 26 in Santanyí.
Mainly she expresses it through her own timelessly beautiful photos in different formats. Her pictures show rows of light-flooded cherry trees in black and white, palm crowns, fields enclosed in melancholic morning mist, or a nostalgic turn-of-the-century merry-go-round. For the artist herself, her still-life and landscape photographs are above all “very special moments” that she captured. “I could tell a story about each of these pictures,” she says. And that’s exactly what makes them unique.
Vanessa Jasmin Panné had long had the idea of opening a gallery. “When I was writing my thesis in 2007 I was already envisioning this,” she recalls. After completing her studies in Berlin, she first worked as an art director in the fashion sector, managed photo-shoots, created exhibition stands, and made corporate designs for companies. The latter, she still does today. As for example, for property entrepreneur Lucie Hauri, co-owner of East 26. Jasmin not only took on the entire re-design of the real estate agency, but also developed the name and branding of East 26. “I love to design a company as a brand and define the common thread.”

And that’s not all. In addition to the impressive photographs which are sold as high-quality art prints with a maximum of ten copies, Jasmin also exhibits other objets d’arts. “I had an idea while looking at old Mallorcan glass containers for wine and wanted to upcycle them,” the artist recalls. After various experiments with different materials and acrylic paints, her decoration vases emerged, each one unique and created with its own identity stamp: a “golden hat” above the bottle neck.
“The vases rapidly attracted fans. The decoration of walls is usually more difficult for people,” says the designer. “For many, it’s a great challenge to dress walls.” For this reason, Jasmin helps her customers find the right picture and likes to go to their homes to see what colours, shapes, and sizes are most appropriate.
“Design follows the same rules at all levels. An image should adapt to the space. Just like a tailor-made suit. In both cases it is about aesthetics, “says Vanessa Jasmin Panné.
