About Baleares International College
Established in 1957, Baleares International College offers gold-standard education and families have two fantastic campuses to choose from: a larger campus in Sa Porrassa for children aged 3 to 18, and a smaller school in Sant Agustí on the outskirts of Palma for children aged 2 to 11. Both provide the same fully-immersive British experience, the same English National Curriculum and the same highly qualified and experienced teaching staff, along with a wide range of facilities and extra-curricular activities.
With students from over 40 different countries, BIC has one of the most varied international student bodies in Spain. As well as providing a stimulating and cosmopolitan environment, this also means English is truly the common language, and is spoken throughout the school by all students and staff alike. All teaching staff are trained and experienced in the UK, and bring with them the latest educational methodologies and approaches.
Part of the Orbital Education Group of Schools, BIC is accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Education, inspected by HMI (Her Majesty´s Inspectorate) and is a member of NABSS (National Association of British Schools in Spain) and COBIS (Council of British International Schools). The school is also a registered examination centre for The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
BIC plays an important and active role in the local community, organising and participating in numerous social and fundraising events around Mallorca. With links to schools around the world, students have the unique opportunity to learn globally and begin to think globally too.
Sant Agustí Campus
Sant Agustí provides Early Years and Primary education for students aged 2 to 11, with a friendly, family-like atmosphere. Students benefit from large, brightly lit and well-equipped classrooms as well as specialist facilities such as a library, music and art rooms, and a spacious dining room with views out to sea. The students also have access to a forest school and excellent sports facilities nearby and take part in a variety of activities including sailing, beach volleyball and swimming. The school offers an extensive language programme alongside English as the main language, offering Spanish, Catalan and German. Students can also access a virtual learning environment, and programming is taught as part of the ICT curriculum. An extra-curricular programme with activities such as robotics and coding, art, martial arts and sailing is also available in the afternoons. Excursions and talks by visiting experts are organised throughout the year.
After completing their Primary education at Sant Agustí, children have the opportunity to transition to BIC’s Sa Porrassa campus to begin their Secondary education.
Sa Porrassa Campus
The Sa Porrassa campus, located in an easily accessible area in Calvià, is a purpose-built school, with bright, air-conditioned classrooms, excellent sports facilities and lots of green, outdoor spaces including an indoor sports centre, playing fields with sports pitches, a swimming pool, all-weather basketball, football and volleyball courts, ICT suite and science laboratories.
Students can attend the school at Sa Porrassa from age 3 through to 18. Spanish and Catalan as a second language are taught to all students from Reception age, while German and French are taught from Year 3. Native language programmes are also available in Spanish, Catalan and German.
Students will sit public examinations at IGCSE and A Level, with most obtaining the necessary grades to go to the University of their choice around the world. In many instances, students will return to their home country safe in the knowledge that the A Level grade obtained will grant them access to the courses they choose – the qualification is still considered the ‘gold standard’ as far as university admittance is concerned. Most recently, 88% of IGCSE students achieved grades A*-C in their exams, and 83% achieved grades A*-C at A Level.
