Here we provide all the information you want to know about making the most of a visit to this superbly located Mallorcan village.
History & Culture
The renowned French architect and town planner François Spoerry developed the modern suburban incarnation of Bendinat. Prior to this we come across Bendinat a couple of times in the history books.
In 1229 King James of Aragon made camp here after a grueling battle with the Moors. There is a story relating to the origin of its name, where the King said ‘Ben dinat’, meaning ‘well dined’ in Catalan, after enjoying a meal in a tent here.
Bendinat castle was built between 1855 and 1867. The 3rd Marquis of la Romana, Pedro Caro, commissioned the build in the Central European Gothic style. The 2800-acre estate has had several private owners, including the Count of Montenegro. It is still possible to see the castle from a distance, but still being privately owned means it’s not open to tourists.

It provides a feeling of isolation and luxury in a location that is very close to holiday resorts and the cosmopolitan capital city of Palma, making it an ideal base for older couples and families who appreciate the convenience without the hustle bustle of staying in a resort centre.
