The Brondo Architect Hotel in the heart of Palma is adorned with an array of artwork and distinguished by its central location, excellent service, chic industrial design and varied, individually and lovingly furnished rooms. The beautiful restaurant with large patio, which you could easily miss from the road, offers guests good Mediterranean cuisine as well as a very generous and delicious breakfast.
Location
The hotel is situated in the heart of Palma, in a side street right by the Plaza Rey Juan Carlos I (also known as the Plaza de las Tortugas – Turtle Square – due to the statue here) which leads on to the Paseo del Borne and Jaime III shopping streets. The perfect location for exploring the whole of the centre. A multi-storey car park is only a short walk away.
Relax & enjoy
As soon as you step into the hotel you will notice the many, often huge, works of art that can be found throughout which make exploring the building a real joy. Many of the works are part of changing exhibitions by local artists. This concept is based on one of the four corporate values of the Unusual Hotel Group namely that it should be easy for guests to immerse themselves in the local culture. Bicycles are therefore also available for hire which guests can use to explore Palma and the Paseo Maritimo.
On Thursday and Saturday evenings (peak season), a DJ ensures a lively mood in the bar and restaurant area whilst in the low season guests can listen to a guitarist who performs here on Mondays and Wednesdays. Besides numerous cosy lounge and relaxation areas, the hotel also has a terrace which is great for sunbathing as well as a work out as there is also some gym equipment here.
Sleep
The small hotel has succeeded in creating a unique combination of 17th century Mallorcan archicture and the industrial design of New York lofts. A characteristic style which by no means appears cold but, instead, creates a fun and creative atmosphere which is reflected in many of the rooms which are named after famous architects who have inspired the design. Almost all rooms are different, there is no uniform design. Although the hotel is rather small with only 30 rooms, each guest will find a room to suit their personal tastes.
Visitors can, for example, choose between the Premium Rooms with king-size bed, large balcony and Balinese bed or 50 m² Suite with fully-equipped kitchen, private terrace and sofa bed. The smaller rooms, the 15m² “Petite Room”, meanwhile, have a small bathroom which is integrated into the room but are more affordable. Rooms either face the quiet inner courtyard or the side road, the Calle de Can Brondo.
Some of the bathrooms and showers are open plan and merge seamlessly into the bedroom, in keeping with the loft design, whilst others feature dark green marble tiling or exposed Marés stone. Bathroom toiletries include the 100% ecological Mediterranean skincare products by Olive Care. All rooms include a TV and minibar, Premium Rooms and Suites also feature a mobile which you can use for calls and online browsing free of charge, coffee and tea-making facilities, bathing robe and slippers.
Eat & drink
A surprise awaits guests in the smart, bright hotel restaurant which features a large terrace which leads out onto an inner courtyard – a small oasis which you wouldn’t expect in the heart of the Mallorcan capital and which is easily overseen from the road. Mediterranean cuisine is served here at lunch time and in the evenings. Guests can enjoy an extremely generous breakfast – besides the usual continental and English specialities, there is also a table full of Mallorcan delicacies, a wide choice of breads and rolls as well as a selection of homemade cake and gateaux. At 16 euros including drinks, this is one of the best breakfasts you will find at this price in the Mallorcan capital. The bar, meanwhile, specialises in home-made shakes as well as gin and tonics.
Close to the hotel
Many restaurants, bars, cafés and boutiques and well-known clothing brands can be found on the adjoining Paseo del Borne and Jaime III. Sights such as the cathedral, Royal Palace of La Almudaina as well as museums including the Casal Solleric, Gran Hotel Caixaforum Palma and Museo Es Baluard for modern and contemporary art are only a short walk away. Some of the best galleries in Palma such as the Gallery Red and Galerie Pelaires are also just around the corner. The nearby squares (Plaza Mayor, Cort, Plaza de la Reina and others) as well as the Paseo del Borne also regularly host events throughout the year. The Teatro Principal, the programme of which includes ballet and opera as well as theatre, is only a short walk away.
Good to know
Soul Service is a further cornerstone of the Unusual Hotel Group’s philosophy and a service which guests can really feel. The team is super friendly, well-trained and relaxed which makes it easy for guests to enjoy their stay here.
