In every moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth, or to step back into safety.” This legacy quote from 20th-century American psychologist Abraham Maslow encapsulates the reasons people come to Cal Reiet Holistic Retreat in Santanyí. It’s where mind, body, and soul find not only sanctuary and serenity, but also encouragement and inspiration to step forward into growth.
Set amidst nature, spacious light-filled Cal Reiet is where sophisticated yet wellness-orientated travellers and yogis find rest, restoration, and rejuvenation.
These guests become part of a like-minded community – making new friends with a shared interest in wellbeing – but still find their own space and time for silence and meditation.
Petra (Swiss) and Henning Bensland (Swedish) live in Switzerland and bought the estate in 2012. Opening Cal Reiet in summer 2015 fulfilled their dream of bringing to life a “house of friendship” – where people who embrace personal and spiritual development, as well as lifelong learning, could recover some of what everyday life drains from them. It offers the European traveller an upmarket wellness retreat on this sunny well-located Mediterranean island – only a few hours from their own doorstep.
As well as individuals, families, and friends who come independently, Cal Reiet hosts companies and practitioners organising retreats within the field of mind-body-spirit wellbeing, such as yoga, tai chi, stress management, Ayurveda, and detox.
The team here is infused with kindness, consideration for others, and devotion to wellbeing. Chef Rafel Mulet studied the pioneering Energetic Cooking in Barcelona and offers ‘culinary wellness’ based on fresh, local, organic ingredients turned into simple but delicious Mediterranean cuisine.
“We offer hospitality from our hearts and space for our guests to reconnect with themselves, others, and the world around them,” Henning says. “Our aim is that guests leave here with more energy, mental clarity, connection, and vibrancy.”
His model for Cal Reiet was ‘Bara Vara’, created by a Swedish entrepreneur whose cancer had been healed by alternative therapies such as awareness, yoga, and psychotherapy. “Our promise is to deliver a unique transformative experience that will assist guests to live a more illuminated, happier, and healthier life,” says Henning.
