About S’Estany d’en Mas
S’Estany d’en Mas is a lovely cove beach that is part of a resort community called Cala Romantica, (by which name this beach is referred to as well), on the east coast of Mallorca. In this resort area are some restaurants, shops and hotels so it can serve as a base for holidays. The largest town is Manacor, about 20 minutes away, and the larger, more commercial resort town of Porto Cristo, is about 10-15 minutes away by car.
S’Estany d’en Mas is the largest of three nice cove beaches in the area including Cala Anguila and Cala Mendina. Though it is quite touristic in peak summer months, particularly among German and British families, S’Estany d’en Mas remains a beautiful beach, about 160 metres long, with fine, white sand and clear waters. Winds can pick up on this side of the island bring small waves and currents which are fun for swimming. There are sunbeds and umbrella’s available for hire and there are facilities for showers and toilets.
There are not many water sports activities apart paddle boats. There is a beachfront restaurant and a snack bar at the beach and a couple of smaller cafes further inland on the streets. The beach is protected on the sides by cliffs that are covered with pine trees.

Safety and Access
If you are not staying in one of the vacation rentals onsite, S’Estany d’en Mas or Cala Romantica, is easily accessed by car by following signs off of the main road. There is free parking along the streets and in a small lot at the entrance of the beach. There is a ramp for disabled access and there are places to sit on the edge of the beach with some shade. There is a public bus from Portocristo but schedules should be checked for times. There is a long walkway along the cliffs that leads you back to much of the vacation housing as well as towards some of the other nearby cove beaches.
This is a safe and family friendly beach with calm waters and a lifeguard on duty during the peak summer months. Facilities include showers and toilets.
You can anchor your boat here for the day and Portocristo would be the closest marina.
Things to do on S’Estany d’en Mas
This is a quiet beach, without much in the way of sports activities, although paddle boats are available for hire. Swimming and snorkelling are definitely the most popular activities and playing in the sand. Along the cliffs are trails that lead to other nearby beaches including Cala Anguila and Cala Mendina, which are quite nearby, and Cala Varques, which is about a 3-kilometre walk.
Restaurants on S’Estany d’en Mas
Directly on the beach is a beach bar that serves snacks and drinks and a restaurant that serves good beach fare including burgers, fish, and tapas. Surrounding some of the vacation rentals is a small supermarket and a couple of cafes. Further afield head to Portocristo where there is a wider selection of restaurants and bars.

Hotels on S’Estany d’en Mas
Though the area is quite isolated in many ways, all around the cliffs and going inland are a series of single or double level vacation housing, mostly for families or couples. There are a couple of hotels as well, but most of the accommodation in Cala Romantica is single unit apartments or townhouses. Fortunately, the architecture was kept subtle, so it doesn’t take away from the beautiful landscapes.

Nearby S’Estany d’en Mas
This is really a relaxed beach vacation spot where the closest points of interest are other beaches to explore. Porto Cristo is a nice, family-friendly port town great for lunch or to spend an afternoon. Manacor is Mallorca’s second largest city and home to the well-known Majorica Perles factory, the artificial pearl manufacturer, and Rafa Nadal’s famous tennis academy. And Portocolom has a surprising amount of gourmet restaurants that are worth looking into if you like good food.
Also nearby are the famous Cuevas del Drac, where boats take visitors inside the caves along this eastern coast for a spectacular look at the dripping stalagmites.
