The intimate Calatrava Boutique Hotel in Palma which has 16 rooms and suites is located directly by the sea, next to Palma’s ancient city wall. All rooms, suites and bathrooms are exceptionally bright and spacious and the large modern suites, in particular, offer a stunning sea view which makes waking up something to really look forward to. What’s more, there’s a great breakfast.
The hotel is situated in a tranquil spot in one of Palma’s oldest quarters, Sa Calatrava, only a few metres from the city walls. The town’s beach is only a short walk away and you can get to Palma airport from here in only 10 minutes by taxi.
Relax & enjoy
The hotel’s rooftop terrace is the perfect place for relaxing – breakfast is also served here accompanied by a fantastic view of most of Palma, the old town’s rooftops and the sea. Otherwise, head to the bar and bistro with terrace on the tree-lined square in front of the hotel which is particularly enjoyable in the summer.
In the small spa guests can enjoy the finest in spa pampering with sauna, jacuzzi, heated stone loungers as well as massage room (massages to be booked in advance). The sauna area can also be booked for private use (with prior reservation).
The hotel’s service is, similar to that of the sister hotels Can Cera and Can Alomar, as staff do all they can to help guests, are friendly and forthcoming but not pushy and attentive yet reserved – perfect five-star service.
The hotel rooms and suites are modern and comfortable with an almost simplistic design with only few yet excellent works of art on the walls and simple yet comfortable furnishings. In the suites on the upper floor, in particular, which are between 50 and 60 m², this minimal design allows you to focus on the essentials namely the stunning views from the wall to wall window in front of the balcony. At night you can admire the countless glistening lights of the Paseo Marítimo or try and spot a ship’s anchor light in the bay of Palma. When you wake up the next day, you are greeted by the gleaming blue sea which makes it a real joy to get up. Guests want for nothing here – bathing robe and slippers, desk, coffee and tea making facilities and cosy sofa/seating area included. There is a handwritten card and chilled bottle of good champagne in the room upon arrival.
The suites of the lower floor which are slightly smaller (between 45 and 50 m²) have similar facilities although the view from the balcony is not quite as open. The Deluxe Double Rooms which are also spacious (between 25 and 40 m²) and have a small balcony are at the back of the hotel with view of the old town and the town’s Xesc Forteza theatre. The large, light grey bathrooms have a separate shower and toilet as well as bath.
Food & drink
The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant although this is hardly noticeable thanks to the bistro’s extensive menu which caters for all tastes ranging from snacks, tapas and sandwiches to soups and salads, Galician-style octopus and spare ribs.
Guests start the day with a varied breakfast with high quality dishes served on the rooftop terrace with marvellous views. The terrace can also be enjoyed in the winter as it’s partly covered and heated. The well thought out and freshly prepared egg dishes, in particular, such as poached egg à la Calatrava, are delicious. It’s quite tempting to try everything.
Close to the hotel
A walk on the ancient city wall heading towards the district of La Lonja with the sea on one side and the cathedral on the other is a must with plenty of great photo opportunities along the way. The narrow alleys and streets of Palma’s old town are also well worth exploring.
The big Parc de la Mar, right in front of the hotel behind the city wall, is perfect for a relaxing afternoon and also great for kids. From July – September, there is an open air cinema with free entry set up in front of the pond below the cathedral. There’s something quite magical about watching a film here once the lights of the cathedral have gone out and the stars are gleaming in the sky above … Some of the films are in English and usually have Spanish subtitles.
An interesting sight right by the hotel is the Banys Àrabs – the Arab baths which are more or less all that remain as evidence of the Moorish rule that once dominated the island.
Good to know
A private parking space can be arranged only 100 m from the hotel.
Why stay here
The stunning view from the suites, excellent service and top location right by the sea.
