History and Culture
Like many towns in this part of Mallorca Can Picafort is close to many early Bronze Age settlements, so has a very ancient history. This popular coastal resort is so developed you would be forgiven for thinking that it was purpose-built. In fact Can Picafort developed from being a small fishing village and has now transformed completely.
Can Picafort is now a very popular resort which is positively bustling during the summer season and mostly caters to German visitors, although you will find some bars aimed at British and Irish tourists. Here you will find everything that you would expect to enjoy an active, entertaining beach holiday.

The shopping in Can Picafort is geared towards holiday makers in search of fun, sun and souvenirs. There is also a weekly market on Friday mornings.
Major Attractions in Can Picafort
The major attraction of Can Picafort is the beach and all the activities which revolve around it. The beach here is white and sandy with clear water and has all the facilities you would expect to make it family-friendly.
During peak season this beach is also incredibly busy and crowded. A little further away from the main beach is the quieter beach of ‘Playa de Muro’ which is surrounded by sand dunes.
You will also find plenty of entertainment and organised sports in Can Picafort. For those interested in history and culture you do not have to travel far to find it with regular day trips being available to quieter parts of Northern Mallorca. There are many more traditional towns nearby.
The wild life reserve of S’Albufera is internationally renowned among bird watchers and consists of marsh and salt lands with many species of birds and other animals. The Tramuntana mountain range is also within travelling distance.
Things to do in Can Picafort
There are many organised sports in this area such as sailing, scuba diving and windsurfing.
Fun activities are also popular such as go-karting, pedal boats and inflatable rides. The long promenade in the resort is a fun place to see and be seen for walkers, cyclists and roller bladers. Northern Mallorca is very popular with cyclists, although they do tend to prefer visiting Mallorca in the cooler, low season months.

There is an international community which lives in Can Picafort all year, but this mostly a holiday resort which is very quiet in winter. If you plan on buying property here you can find bargain apartments from 100,000 euros up to around 300,000 euros for a penthouse in good order. Nearby Can Picafort
For a more authentic experience of Mallorca you could visit the traditional town of Santa Margalida. The nearby resorts of Alcudia and Pollensa are within 20-minutes’ drive. The un-spoilt beach of Son Serra de Marina is also within easy distance as is the pretty rural town of Muro.
