As the name suggests, this small hilltop hotel was once a convent housing the Franciscan Sisters, whose social work in the areas of education and health in the village of Ariany continued until 2004.
What was doubtless a modest home for the nuns is now an attractively decorated contemporary hotel with 11 rooms and suites – but social responsibility still prevails. Nine of the guest rooms, together with public areas (including the outdoor pool), are accessible for those with reduced mobility, and signage around the hotel is also provided in Braille form.
In addition, the institution Mater Misericordiae, which established Es Convent d’Ariany as a hotel, provides training and employment for people with intellectual disabilities – five of them work in the gardening, maintenance and housekeeping departments at the hotel.
Regarding the facilities, the guest rooms are very spacious, with stylish modern parquet floors and all the facilities usually expected by today’s hotel guests. The ‘Suites Privilege’ also offer a kitchenette, fireplace and a lovely private terrace. The large lounge/dining room opens onto an attractive terrace for alfresco breakfast or dinner by the pool. Dinner is buffet-style and available Wednesdays to Sundays.
We Love… That they provide purpose and employment for people who might otherwise not easily find work.
Why you should stay here… For the mesmerising panoramic view of the central plains known as the ‘Pla de Mallorca’.
Good to Know
The hotel has a partnership with the Handisport Foundation, through which it can arrange sporting activities for guests with disabilities.
