About Es Racó d’Es Teix
Set amidst the hills of Deia, in the northwest of the island, Es Racó d’es Teix is one of Mallorca’s restaurant gems. Opened in 2000, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in 2002, and has consistently created a special dining experience for over 15-year since.
Run by husband and wife team, Josef Sauerschell & Leonor Payeras, he German and she Mallorcan, the romantic and welcoming atmosphere of Es Racó d’es Teix reflects not only their successful partnership, but the artistic spirit of Deia, a mountain village favoured by artists and celebrities for its quiet and discreet charm. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner throughout most of the year, closing for a short time in the winter.
Josef Sauerschell & Leonor Payeras
Though some might say working with a spouse is risky business, in the case of Josef Sauerschell & Leonor Payeras, it is a perfect recipe. The two began their gastronomic collaboration in 1986 at the El Olivo restaurant in the legendary La Residencia hotel, where Josef was head chef and Leonor the Maître D. Josef had already proved his culinary expertise working at some of Europe’s most distinguished restaurants include Le Manoir aux Quatre Saisons and Le Beau Rivage Palace. After many successful years at El Olivo, including a Michelin Star in 1999, they decided to fulfil a dream and open their own restaurant along the main road of Deia. It took only two years for Es Racó d’es Teix received its Michelin star.
