Llucmajor allocates over a week to celebrate their patron, Saint Candida. A family-friendly atmosphere envelopes the festive days and evenings of processions, shows and live music. Saint Candida, like many saints, had a gruesome death. The story goes that she was buried alive at the bottom of a well after her husband, a Roman jailor, freed converted Christian prisoners. Why her relics came to arrive at Llucmajor’s church of Saint Miquel isn’t entirely certain, however there you will find her lying figure at the altarpiece of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
What to expect
Fortunately her gory end has given rise to a celebration which brings the community together. This year it will take place between 1st and 9th August. Expect creative workshops, traditional music, processions and a special floral offering to the patron saint among a traditional correfoc.
