Housed in an old textile factory, this accommodation-focused hotel has retained oodles of its period charm combining original architectural features with a swish contemporary update. Its central Palma location puts some of the coolest nightlife on your doorstep, while being within easy walking distance of the capital’s historic attractions.
Attractive apartment-style rooms offer a home-away-from-home set up, perfect for families and groups looking for a self-catering option.
Location
FIL Suites is located in central Palma’s newly regenerated former red-light district of Sa Gerreria, set on the eastern fringes of its old town. While this part of the city has seen a dramatic transformation (and gentrification) in recent years, it retains a hip and edgy atmosphere that has attracted some of the capital’s trendier newly opened bars and restaurants.
Relax & enjoy
While this aparthotel is more about the lodgings than facilities, what it does have is a superb rooftop terrace complete with long plunge pool with views over the surrounding cityscape. Guests can also soak up the sun stretched out on loungers and Bali beds after a dip.
Sleep
The hotel’s real forte is in the quality of its accommodation, offering a choice of five different room types. At one end is the ‘Just FIL’, a double room great for couples looking for somewhere stylish yet straightforward to spend the night, through to apartments equipped for self-catering families or groups. Common amenities include free and zippy Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines, and Smeg fridges. Bathrooms all have rainfall showers, while some add whirlpool tubs in open-plan rooms.
Across all rooms, decor is bright and modern, combining chic Mallorcan-influenced Nordic furnishings with a palette of crisp whites, wooden floors and fitting, and cleverly designed lighting. Retaining the architecture of the old factory building, each room layout is different. Some rooms extend to enclosed terraces, and all overlook the street or square.
Eat & drink
There are no dining or bar facilities in the hotel, though numerous excellent eating and drinks options can be found within a short stroll. There’s also a small supermarket just opposite the hotel.
Close to the hotel
The hotel’s rear entrance connects directly to Plaça Nova de la Ferrería, a buzzy and newly regenerated square with hip coffee shops, bars, and restaurants. Palma’s main square (Plaça Major) is under five minutes on foot, and a couple more minutes away is the city’s La Rambla leafy promenade. The La Seu cathedral is less than 15 minutes’ walk, as are most of the capital’s main historic attractions.
Good to know
Unlike most hotels in the city centre, you can drive to FIL Suites and underground parking is available with prior reservation. However, do be aware of strict driving restrictions in surrounding areas.
Why you should stay here
A great base for exploring the Mallorcan capital with stylish apartment accommodation and rooftop pool.
