Flanigan has been a landmark restaurant in the upmarket Puerto Portals since 1987 following owner Miguel Arias’ decision to convert a simple bar into a top-quality eatery over 30 years ago. Since then the restaurant has continued to draw a well-heeled crowd that counts Spanish royalty as regulars.
The secret to its success has always been to offer traditional no-frills Spanish cuisine reminiscent of the home cooking from a family kitchen, mixing of nostalgia with the finest ingredients and unique flavours. Its waterside terrace also provides a pleasant setting overlooking the rows of yachts that line the swanky marina.
On the menu and events
The restaurant is particularly renowned for its seafood, so you can expect some wonderfully fresh fish cooked on the grill or steamed. To start there’s the likes of salmon tartare, marinated white tuna, or lobster salad, while a seafood dish for sharing includes lightly battered bitesize hake and squid, cuttlefish croquettes, and juicy prawns.
There’s plenty of expertly prepared meats too, from their steak tartare to delicious Galician sirloin; the Flanigan burger is also one of their most popular dishes. Daily-changing hearty stews feature in the winter months – changing to lighter options during the summer – as well as soups, pasta and rice dishes. But diners should be sure to save some space for their apple tart for which they have become renowned.
Flanigan also has the lovely Bar Capricho nearby, offering a buzzy atmosphere for guests to enjoy drinks on a sunny terrace, while by night it becomes one of the marina’s lively nightspots. It can also be hired for small events, parties, and get-togethers, as can Emcima on the upper floor of the Flanigan restaurant – private area with sea views and terrace, perfect for any type of event or banquet.
Catering service and tapas bar
Flanigans also offers an excellent catering service, where clients can have their event catered with the restaurant’s outstanding cooking. They make sure that each customer’s needs and requirements are taken account of to personalise the experience and make each event unique. Every catered event also includes plentiful kitchen and waiting staff to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible.
The Flanigan Group also owns a tapas bar on Palma’s buzzing Passeig de Mallorca, with a fun and casual vibe where customers can choose from a varied assortment of tapas from all over Spain. Taverna El Tapas de Flanigan is spread over two floors with a street-front terrace and basement available for private events.
