While there’s no shortage of historic hotels in Palma, staying at the Antiqua Palma Hotel you really set a sense of the city’s past. The hotel has been adapted to the former casa noble, rather than the other way round, preserving its centuries-old character and layout through the delicately restored period features.
This has not been at the expense of a sense of luxury, however, with tranquil rooms that combine elegance with high-tech, a bijou spa, and rooftop terrace with plunge pool. A genuine high-end oasis deep in Palma’s historic centre.
Location
The Antigua Palma is tucked away in one of the quietest corners of Palma’s old town, overlooking a picturesque junction of charming cobbled lanes. The former Jewish quarter now goes by the name of Monti-Sion, and is one of the capital’s best-preserved historical neighbourhoods. It’s a fine base from where to explore Palma, with most of its attractions within easy walking distance.

Relax & enjoy
As you’d expect from a boutique five-star property, the hotel provides spaces in which to unwind after a day’s sightseeing. Inspired by the nearby Arab Baths, a lower ground floor spa offers guests a deep soaking pool, sauna, sensation shower and ice fountain. Up on the roof, several terrace areas provide space for sunbathing, together with a plunge pool and some lovely views over the city’s rooftops – including the spire of nearby San Francesc.
Sleep
There are 27 rooms, spread across three floors and six categories. All are finished in calming tones, with a design that combines a clean modern feel with traditional decorative elements. Each room differs in some way, some with balconies overlooking the quiet road, others feature tall windows and high beamed ceilings. Fluffy bathrobes, Nespresso machines, and minibars featuring Mallorcan-made products can be found in all rooms, while bathrooms have walk-in rainfall showers and premium Loewe products. Touchscreen panels offer climate and lighting control at your fingertips.
Eat & drink
The building’s old bodega provides suitably atmospheric setting for La Cuina del Antigua restaurant, with a menu inspired by traditional Mallorcan cooking. Ikat fabric, repurposed wooden doors, and vaulted ceiling in marès stone set the mood for buffet breakfast (with cooked-to-order items), afternoon tapas, or an intimate evening meal.
A second restaurant, Terracotta, is located up on the roof, offering a lighter menu of varied dishes. It is also the perfect spot for an evening cocktail with views over the Palma cityscape.
Close to the hotel
Just a short stroll from the hotel are some of the city’s most important historical points of interest, including the Arab Baths, Museum of Mallorca, and the wonderful Sant Francesc church. The old city ramparts and iconic cathedral are also within five minutes on foot. Ten minutes in one direction takes you to the shopping of Passeig del Borne boulevard, and 15 minutes in the other to the city’s Can Pere Antoni sandy beach.
Good to know
Also just a couple blocks away is Plaça de Santa Eulàlia, lined with cafes whose terraces provide a particularly pleasant spot for a coffee and ensaimada while watching the world go by.
Why you should stay here
An exemplary, sensitively restored piece of historic Palma, offering upscale comforts within an easy stroll of the capital’s attractions.
