The VMG Horse Ranch sets new standards in equestrian sports in Mallorca. On a 100 acre estate, the hotel & stables facilities in Llucmajor offer an attractive environment for dressage, jumping and western riders.
This is something that Mallorca’s equestrian world has never seen before: on a 100-acre natural area overlooking the Serra de Tramuntana, the Balearic Islands’ most luxurious equestrian club has opened. There are a large riding hall, three outdoor courts for dressage, jumping and western riding and four horse stables with ten boxes each and two saddle chambers. The ranch is supposed to attract horse fans who want to go for high level riding holidays – as singles, as a couple or as a family (with children from the age of twelve).
Luxury apartment accommodation
Guests are accommodated in 22 luxuriously furnished apartments with private terraces and gardens, just a stone’s throw away from the paddocks and stables. A restaurant, sun deck and swimming pool are also available at VMG Horse Ranch, located between Llucmajor and S’Aranjassa, a 15 minutes drive from Palma airport.
Each one of the 40 to 110 square meter apartments is also perfectly equipped. They are housed in the former stables and barns of the original former agricultural Finca and in the main house dating from the year 1843. Each unit for two, three or four people is equipped with king size box spring beds, a large bathroom, flat screen TV and espresso machine. The rooms have extended nature views.
High-class equestrian sports facility
German entrepreneur Michael Geiss is the driving force behind the project. He runs the estate together with his wife Marion. “Mallorca will be boosted further by tourism over the next few years”, says Michael Geiss, who has been visiting the island for 22 years. He speaks Spanish quite well and owns a house in Son Vida. In his opinion, Mallorca was lacking high-class equestrian sports facilities before. The program on the ranch is varied. Guests can take riding lessons on well trained jumping and dressage horses up to performance level M.
Horse-riding training camps
Or they can bring their own horse and book one of the experienced riding instructors, like Miguel Jordá Forteza, who coached the Spanish national dressage team.
“28 horses have already moved in at the Horse Ranch Hotel, and ten western riding horses will be added over the next few months”, promises Marion Geiss. She and her 15-year-old daughter Vivian are the real horse lovers in the family. Vivian’s pride is her four-year-old mare Dark Lady Diamond, daughter of De Niro, a superstar among German dressage stallions.
Professional dressage events
The 65 by 197 feet large riding hall in Llucmajor provides the necessary conditions for professional dressage events. The riding hall has been completely insulated to maintain full riding pleasure even at hot summer temperatures. The large windows can be opened and shut down by remote control, a sound system and automatic irrigation are also part of the state-of-the-art equipment.
“50 pits are exclusively for rent for private horses to encourage local people to become part of the equestrian project”, explains Marion Geiss. During the day, the horses stroll on green meadows all year round – every horse owner’s dream. The water for irrigation comes from the finca’s own well. Drainage in the ground ensures that the horses are not ´under water´ during or after heavy rainfall.
On the estate, Michael Geiss has planted over 300 fruit trees with 22 different varieties. In a large garden, herbs and local vegetables are grown, destined to be used as ingredients for the food offered at the ranch’s restaurant. The restaurant “Rider’s” has about 50 seats and offers Mallorcan and international cuisine. External guests are welcome here, too.
The creative entrepreneur has no doubt that his dream of luxurious riding holidays will be fulfilled in this appealing environment. “Especially young people want more attractions than just beach and water on the island”, says Michael Geiss. Mallorca is just perfect for the equestrian sport due to its climatic advantages: In Mallorca one can still take a ride under warm sunlight while it’s still winter in Northern Europe.
