There are various elements that makes the Fontsanta Hotel stand out as really rather special. The total tranquillity of its adults-only vibe is one, where carefully tended gardens provide a choice of secluded spots and peaceful pools for couples to luxuriate in. Its setting, looking out over a nature reserve and salt flats also add to the feeling of serenity, while an abundance of artworks foster refined yet playful vibe throughout.
But it’s their deluxe spa fed from a natural thermal spring that really makes it unique, and is a big reason why it’s amongst the finest hotels on the island.
What is most remarkable about this hotel’s location is its privileged positioned overlooking the Salobrar de Campos nature reserve. It is situated a few kilometres inland from the island’s beautiful south coast, with broad sweeping views over the region’s famous Es Trenc salt plains and wetlands, attracting an abundance of local and migratory birds including flamingos. It’s about a half-hour drive from Palma’s main airport, and 40 minutes into the Mallorcan capital.
Relax & enjoy
This five-star property has a genuine claim to uniqueness, being the only hotel in the Balearic Islands with a spa fed from a thermal spring. It was the Romans who first discovered the revitalising qualities of the mineral-rich waters (that maintain a temperature of 39 degrees), but they now feed a deluxe spa with 10 private soaking baths, jetted thermal pool, thermal Jacuzzi, plus various saunas, showers, relaxation rooms and a long list of treatments.
Amongst the landscaped gardens, there are two swimming pools, lined with double daybeds from where guests can order refreshments. Also dotted around the grounds are four whirlpool tubs to be discovered.
The hotel has 37 rooms and suites, spread across 11 types and several buildings. All radiate the same feeling of calm, with breezy contemporary minimalism combining with touches of rustic-chic. Each opens to a terrace or patio, most of which have lovely panoramas of the neighbouring nature reserve and some stunning sunsets. Rooms combine high-tech with top comforts, including smart lighting systems, interactive TVs, and king-size beds and bathrobes. Most suites also add deep tubs or Jacuzzis, while a luxury villa features a private 30-square-metre pool.
Eat & drink
There’s just the one restaurant, which opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Guests start the day choosing from an extensive breakfast buffet, scattered with Mallorcan produce and healthy options, as well as an excellent menu of cooked-to-order items such as omelettes and crepes. A lunch menu mixes lighter Mediterranean and Asian flavours, while dinner offers top-quality meat and fish either from à la carte or tasting menus. Most diners choose to eat alfresco on one of the shaded terraces, accompanied by regular live music.
Close to the hotel
Less than a kilometre away is the entrance to the Es Trenc Flor de Sal factory, where you can go on a tour of the ‘white mountains’ and salt plains and buy salt direct. The beautiful Es Trenc beach is just over three kilometres away, and the lovely Platja d’es Dolç is five kilometres. A 10-minute drive takes you to the numerous restaurants of the Colonia Sant Jordi resort, and it’s around the same distance to the wonderful Botanicactus cactus gardens.
Good to know
The hotel offers a free shuttle to Es Trenc beach, as well as an exclusive beach hut to enjoy when you get there. Alternatively, you can cycle there on one of their free loaner bikes.
Why you should stay here
Adults-only peace and quiet, set in lovely gardens dotted with pools and Jacuzzis, and offering the only thermal spring-fed spa in the Balearics.
