If this hotel had been here when Chopin and George Sand had stayed in Valldemossa, Sand’s book ‘A Winter in Majorca’ would have been a very different read. Despite their discomfort over the winter of 1838/39, staying in a monastery cell, Chopin described Valldemossa as “the most beautiful place in the world”. And it’s less than 20 minutes’ drive from Palma de Mallorca.
The beautiful stone-built hotel looks at its most stunning at night, when illuminated. But, at any time, you’ll enjoy peace, spectacular surrounding mountains, and privileged views of Valldemossa. The views, the short walk into the heart of Valldemossa – and the elevator between car park and reception, avoiding the numerous steps.
The Relais & Châteaux hotel has 12 individually named rooms and suites, with king-sized beds and private terrace or balcony. Interiors are classically elegant and predominantly cream in colour. The Cartuja de Valldemossa restaurant has a spacious terrace for alfresco dining, with views up to the monastery after which it was named.
In the lawned gardens there’s a large outdoor pool (and bar service) and, indoors, an attractive spa with small pool, sauna and Jacuzzi, and treatments can be arranged.
