In the sheltered waters of the island’s largest natural harbour, seagulls wheel above returning fishing vessels, and yachts bob at anchor – halyards slapping in the breeze. Traditional fisherman’s houses (several finely restored) cluster around the village church, and an impressive lighthouse dominates the entrance to the safe harbour. In the winter months the clarity of light makes this scene even more picturesque.
Whatever season of the year you visit Portocolom, you’ll probably want something to eat and drink and HPC is always there for you – in the depths of winter too. The welcoming restaurant first opened in 2005 in this prime front-line location, just a few metres from the Mediterranean. It has a large front terrace with port views (with heaters in cooler months) and attractive interior with colonial-style décor.
HPC offers high-quality Mediterranean cuisine with international and exotic touches, in this relaxed and elegant ambience. Stand-out dishes include paellas and rice plates, fish and shellfish (from the boat to the table!), interesting salads, and carpaccios and tartars. The kitchen uses exceptional-quality meats from island-raised animals, and fresh seasonal local produce to carefully create the well-presented dishes. Even the hamburgers and pizzas – all home-made – have gourmet flair. The service is professional but friendly and, as you’d expect from a restaurant popular amongst locals and visitors, the staff speak different languages.
But HPC is more than just an eatery. Climb the stairs and you’ll find HPC Blue Cocktail Bar, serving Portocolom’s best cocktails and premium spirits. This smart contemporary bar has a chill-out zone, and a terrace with spectacular elevated views – perfect if you want to enjoy the sun set or gaze at the night-sky of Portocolom.
You can easily organize your event or theme party in the HPC Blue Cocktails Bar thanks to the polyvalence of the space and the technology at offer. Sip your expertly mixed cocktail as you chat, listen to live music, and gaze across the harbour from this, the top spot in the port for a night out with friends. Book one of the cosy rooms in the HPC Hostal and you’ll be having breakfast next morning in one of Mallorca’s loveliest locations.
