Meet the Interior Designer behind Bondian Living
In our Interior Designers on Mallorca series, we interview well-known designer Diana Huete who talks about her fresh, new Mediteranean and cosmopolitan style, her famous clients and the creative inspiration she get from living on Mallorca.
Where are you from originally?
I am Spanish, my father is Spanish and my mother is from the Philippines. I have lived in Madrid and New York although we can’t live without a visit to the Philipines.
How long have you been living on Mallorca?
I live on Mallorca although I travel every week to Madrid to supervise the projects of my team in Madrid. We opened Bondian Living in 2013 which is really the time I have spent on this beautiful island. I have known Mallorca for six years as my husband and I spent every summer in our house in Port Andratx.
What do you love most about living on Mallorca?
The quality of life on the island, how international and cosmopolitan it is, the sea, the mountains, the ambience, it is a magnificent island, perfect to live with the family, it has everything. What is more, it has great infrastructure; in two hours by plane you arrive at whatever European capital, which is fundamental for me and my projects outside of Spain. It also gives me creative inspiration. I am also in love with the old town of Palma, its idiosyncrasies, its architecture, restaurants and cosmopolitan ambience.
Where is your interior design space?
Bondian Living is in Calle Can Verí, number 5, in Palma’s old city. We are situated within an old mansion that we have reformed. We have a showroom of 400 m2 with furniture and accessories with a Mediterranean style. We also have an interior design project department where we bring to life a wide range of projects, both the construction and decoration. In Madrid we also have an office.
How would you describe your décor style?
We have a fresh, new Mediteranean and cosmopolitan style, with clear and neutral bases and colourful complements. Bondian has a very eclectic decoration style, we mix a lot. Our shop has furniture, fabrics and accessories from all over the world that we have brought from our travels. Our style is very personal, unique, a one of a kind creation that helps us achieve great relationships with our clients. But the most important for us is to be professional, we don´t seek to be the most modern, nor the most innovative, we seek professional quality in our work.
Give me a profile of your typical client.
We have every type of client. In Madrid, where we also have an interior design studio, our clients are usually based in Spain: businesses, your average citizen, as well as celebrities like Isabel Preysler or her daughter Tamara Falcó, footballers, etc…In Mallorca our clients are very international, meaning the projects are always really interesting as they are influenced by each individual nationality. We love the diversity, it makes the work really stimulating. A typical client does not exist, just as a typical house does not exist for me. Each client and each house is unique for us, they are very personal.

What would be your dream project?
Any project that represents a challenge. I like unique projects where you can let creativity run free into the design. For Bondian everything is possible, it is almost our slogan! We never reject an idea because it may be too dificult to create.
What is your top interior design tip for readers?
I like a job well done and a good quality of materials with great light. Comfort, harmony, experiment with textures, mix styles, personalize different ambience.
Which is the most interesting project you have ever done and why?
Every project is always special for me. At Bondian we make sure we take great care with each and every one of our projects so that they are unique. At the moment I am fascinated with a project that we are tackling. It is a townhouse in the Casco Antiguo for Swiss clients, we are completely reforming the old house, focusing on every detail. It has wooden features that are over 200 years old. We have bought old doors and beams that feature special tones, marble columns, stone basins made to measure, typical of the island, hydraulic floors in the kitchen, furniture from halfway around the world, linen curtains etc.
We have made sure that every space has something special, we have thought about everything down to the last minute detail. It is a real challenge to recreate the house without losing the original flavour, a fascinating job of searching with the clients in order to achieve their perfect house. There is nothing more gratifying than a client telling you that they have the house of their dreams and that the Bondian team are the ones who have created it.
