A solid personality leads the family business in its fourth generation: the largest winery in Mallorca. His name is José Luis Roses Ferrer. Only the second surname Roses is different to the founder of the bodega. José Luis is similar to his great-grandfather: he does not wait to get things moving, he prefers to move them himself. At the age of only 23, the visionary José Luis founded the bodega in 1930.
Two years later he introduced automatic bottling (the author happily possesses some of these ‘first vintages’). It was a revolutionary concept for those times; today it is an important key to success. Tourism always powered sales. In the early sixties, José Luis Senior was one of three founders of the legendary Hotel Castillo Son Vida. The family is still closely connected to Palma´s noble district. Today, 85 years after its foundation, the winery is market leader in the Majorcan wine business. Meanwhile, the old structure of production has been associated with ultra-modern winemaking technology.
Ferrer stands for a “long barrel contact” of the grape juice. The impressive stock is part of any guided tour. Three hundred new barrels are added every year. Ferrer probably orders more barrels than all the other island bodegas combined. They are bought from all over the world, made of different woods. Some come from China and some are cubes – for better stacking capability. The winemakers experiment with barrels. China and cubes weren’t successful, though. Despite its size, the family-run company offers products for all wine tastes and budgets.

A great organic wine shimmers in the glass: intensive ruby colours with a purple rim. The fantastic bouquet exudes ripe fruit, balsamic notes, and has a little mocha. The excellent flavour in the mouth combines delicate tannins and red, jammy fruit aromas. The finish is spicy.

Classic purple red colour shines in the glass. A gorgeous bouquet exudes aromas of Mediterranean fruits and subtle almond notes. This nectar has many facets on the palate. A classic finish is perfectly balanced.
