Surfing the sea with a board powered by a kite is fun, fast and addictive. In Mallorca, it’s possible to kite more than 300 days a year. Precise thermal breezes off the sea, known as ‘embat’, create perfect conditions. Kitesurfing is King in the northern bays of Pollença and Alcudia, and Can Pastilla near Palma. You can also find suitable wind conditions at Arenal, Es Trenc and Sa Rapita, with their fine, long beaches.
A large sandy area next to the harbour is designated a surfing zone at Can Pastilla, as the rest of the beach gets packed in high season. Pollença is a great place to learn, where the sea is shallow and calm, and the non-profit Learn to Swim Association runs kitesurfing courses with Kite Mallorca. By becoming a member, you will have access to support, advice and a rescue service, if necessary or a small cost, you can have access to a floating platform later in your training.
