With a focus on local produce and farm-fresh food, most of which is either sourced at the market in nearby Campos or from the onsite fruit and vegetable garden, including homemade olive oil, the cuisine is Mediterranean with an added twist.
Specialty dishes prepared to maximize the quality of ingredients include, baby lamb cooked at a low temperature for 16 hours, green bean raviolis with curry, and Caproig cooked in salt water with black rice. The kitchen is open every day from March-November to hotel guests and visitors for lunch and dinner and offers a special snack menu during the afternoon.
Dining with art
La Cocina del Huerto offers its clients a gastronomic experience of dining among art and illuminated gardens in a convivial ambiance. During the day, lunch is served on a large covered terrace surrounded by the vegetable garden where you might just see your tomatoes being plucked off the vine before being served.
Wednesdays and Saturdays they offer “Dining with Art,” a special event that merges art and food. Chef Tolo Julia, who learned to cook in his grandmother and mother’s kitchens, before setting off in 2006 to begin his career in restaurants, evokes that spirit of real home cooking that is based in quality ingredients and the freshest produce. He offers stories about the food being served and guided tours of the sculpture gardens and paintings hung throughout the hotel are given in both English and Spanish. There is also a sound and light show at the great mural. Reservations must be made in advance.
