This gastronomic restaurant within Cap Rocat occupies the rooms where troops at this former military fortress used to eat. Thanks to the architectural skills of the owner Antonio Obrador, the fortress became a unique 5-star hotel, occupying a superb tranquil position on the Bay of Palma.
Diners here now savour a very different type of cuisine to that the troops would have eaten! La Fortaleza restaurant has a magnificent high ceiling, and elegant heavy drapes that add to the luxurious feel and, at night, reflect the warm golden light.
In fine weather, you can dine on the terrace, to the accompaniment of the fountains playing. Open for dinner only, La Fortaleza serves high-end gastronomy, with its roots in Mallorcan cuisine but created using modern techniques by chef Víctor García – who has an excellent reputation on Mallorca.
There’s a choice of two tasting menus: five or seven courses. Those with a lighter appetite can request three courses. Optional wine pairing offered.
The wine list at La Fortaleza will impress any oenophile, with wines from Mallorca, the Peninsula, France, Germany, Italy, and the New World. The French selection includes impressive wines from world-renowned wineries including Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Petrus, Château Latour, and Château d’Yquem.
In 2012, the association of Balearic gastronomy critics awarded ‘best hotel food of the year’ in the islands to La Fortaleza. García uses organic and locally sourced ingredients. As you would expect of a restaurant in a 5-star hotel, the service is excellent – led by maître d’ Bruno Sellés.
