Very popular with local diners, Layn is a long-established family restaurant, run since 1984 by the Bestard Porcel family. The attractive restaurant is in a restored villa looking over the Mediterranean on the waterfront at Puerto de Andratx and offers the choice of dining indoors, on a balcony area with views, or – across the street – on the large canopied terrace right by the water’s edge. Among the ingredients used in the kitchen are fresh fruit and vegetables from local smallholdings, and fresh fish and shellfish landed in the port.
The menu is fairly extensive, with some dishes available in half-portions, for lighter appetites. There are pastas, several rice dishes, including lobster paellas, and a choice of meat dishes, including suckling pig. Right here by the Mediterranean, close to where fishermen bring home their catch, it may seem remiss not to try something from the sea: special treats include the platter of mixed fish and shellfish with lobster, or the spiny lobster. There’s a limited children’s menu but it features dishes that usually appeal to small diners. Layn’s cellar has well-chosen Mallorcan and Spanish wines, at sensible prices.
