Moredesign masterminded the conversion and the result demonstrates their dedication to finding the balance between new and old. Minimalist cement floors and plain white walls enhance the unusual and carefully chosen decorations such as the oversized metal pots and totem-like wooden sculpture.
A flavour of traditional Mallorca is captured in the old wooden beams and the wicker baskets; in the gnarled wooden bench in the kitchen and distinctive tiles beside the fireplace. These rustic features are juxtaposed with the contemporary tendency of exposed structural elements and slim metal door frames.
The playful movement between past and present does not compromise on comfort. It is a home created for those who appreciate the rich tapestry of the past and the technology of the new.
Outside, the garden presents a postcard of relaxed Mediterranean living with intimate corners shaded by olive trees from which to watch the ever-changing landscape. Moredesign, founded by Oro del Negro and Manuel Villanueva, are based in Deià. Passionate about the island, they felt a natural connection with this project.
