Located opposite Santa Creu church on the edge of Palma’s La Lonja district, L’Ospite is an authentic Italian fine-dining restaurant, opened July 2014, and owned by Belgian Gert Hofman and Italian chef Alessandro Di Feo.
The cosy interior seats around 20, with alfresco eating on the front pavement terrace. Gert is an amiable host, with heaps of international tourism and hospitality experience, and speaks around six languages.
Many of Alessandro’s recipes came from his grandmother – who lived with his family and enjoyed cooking until she was 90 – and have been given his own signature twist.
He cooks with passion, preparing flavourful à la carte dishes and daily specials to order, that are worth waiting for.
Good-quality ingredients, plenty of fresh herbs, slow-cooked meats (such as the meltingly tender 5-hour-cooked ragu, and veal in the classic ‘vitello tonnato’), and a fairly priced selection of Italian and some Mallorcan wines, make this a treat for fans of Italian gastronomy.
There is not a pizza in sight. With 24 hours’ notice, Alessandro will create innovative dishes for vegans and vegetarians.
