We want this issue to be a celebration of Mallorca – Mallorcan products, services and, indeed, people who have reached international fame and success having originated from the island. Mallorca has a lot to offer and much to be proud of. International brands, from some of the largest hotel chains in the world – Melia and Barceló – to shoe designers Camper and Bestard, have become market leaders in their sectors and built solid global businesses from humble beginnings.
There is a wide range of Mallorcan talent – not least local fashion designers such as José Miró and Alberto Tous who are world-class. Young sports personalities such as Rafa Nadal and Carlos Moyá are dominating tennis and Jorgé Lorenzo from Palma is ranked second in the Moto GP world. Find out more in our comprehensive guide to Made in Mallorca.
We meet the Tolo Cardell owner of Tony Mora the world’s top cowboy boot manufacturer his head office in Alaró and find out what are the key influences for his success. We check out the interior of a traditional Mallorcan finca in Santa Maria which has enjoyed an authentic make-over. Our spectacular fashion shoot on the familiar streets of Palma features clothes from local designers and shops.
Our restaurant review takes us north to Puerto Alcudia where we meet Macarena de Castro, the innovative young Mallorcan chef of Restaurante Jardin, who will no doubt be the first female on the island to receive a Michelin star before long.
The downturn in economic conditions has forced us all to rethink our true values in life. We undergo a rebranding exercise with lifestyle guru Adrienne Cullen in Made in Mallorca. Continuing the theme, Jan Edwards has the last word on the subject.
