About Melassa Restaurant
Melassa is the restaurant of the adults-only boutique property Melbeach Hotel & Spa, located on the beach in Canyamel in northeast Mallorca. As well as catering for guests of the hotel’s 32 seafront-rooms, the restaurant is open to the public (aged over 18) for lunch and dinner.
The dining room offers sea views and a comfortable relaxed ambience and, for those who like to eat outdoors, there’s a terrace overlooking the swimming pool and the Mediterranean Sea beyond.
Melassa offers an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner and, after 20:30hrs, also a 7-plate tasting menu.
Between 12:30 and 17:30h there is also a separate menu of snacks and lighter dishes, such as tapas, salads, pastas, and ‘pa amb oli’.
Guests staying in the hotel have the option of a set dinner menu, the Menu Melassa. Furthermore, you can enjoy a variety of cocktails at their bar and chill-out area.
The cuisine at Melassa
Fresh seasonal produce (some of it from the finca belonging to the hotel’s Mallorcan owners) is used in the kitchen. The cuisine is Mediterranean with some Mexican and Asian influences.
The following are examples of dishes you may find on the à la carte menu:
- Prawns with a cold soup of red fruits and basil oil
- Monkfish with purée of green asparagus and lemongrass sauce
- Suckling pig with stewed seasonal mushrooms and hazelnut butter
- ‘Stone mounds’ dessert (vanilla, coconut, tonka bean, Amaretto)
- Yogurt, lemongrass, lime, and basil
The wines at Melassa
The Spanish wines at Melassa include a good selection of Mallorcan labels, including some organic. The house wine is also from Mallorca.
David Moreno leads an enthusiastic young brigade at Melassa. A native of Mexico, David moved to Melbeach Hotel & Spa in 2017 to relaunch the hotel’s restaurant with a new culinary concept and style. He previously worked at the Michelin-starred Andreu Genestra in Capdepera, and his experience at that establishment is evident in the cooking and presentation of his cuisine in Canyamel.
