Barbara Mesquida was tired of only following in the predetermined footsteps of her father – and therefore she changed everything. In 2012 it began with her first grape harvest. She planned the new winery with a two-euro coin, which symbolized a stainless steel tank. The coin was often placed on the sketches – until the desired number of vessels was achieved, and thus the dimensions of the new winery became clear. Within two months, the plans were implemented and the new production premises were ready. Success followed immediately.
The woman with a penchant for flashy glasses is considered an overachiever on the winery scene. She runs seven vineyards. “One for every day,” she says with a smile. “Therefore, I have no favourite wine,” is her answer to our question. For Barbara the reason for her success is clear: “Everything has a reason.” Since 2007, she has dealt with biodynamic viticulture, based on the anthroposophic principles of Rudolf Steiner. For some it’s hocus-pocus, for her it´s the meaning of everything. She has a strict plan for the vines; nothing is left to chance.
The carefully chosen names for wines have a profound meaning. It’s like a puzzle in which everything fits together in the end. A lot has been going on for Mesquida Mora, but the future plans of Barbara go far beyond. “I want to create a ´refugi´ for organic farming – animals and humans on the bodega plot.” There is still a bumpy road to travel. We will follow the project.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah & Callet.
The wine shines in the glass in light violet. The cherry bouquet has approaches of mineral and even meaty notes. Trispol can be sensed on the palate with charming spice and slight barrel notes. A joyful wine to drink, even in midsummer.
A very dynamic wine.
