On the day of Pollença’s Patroness Saint, the locals take to the streets to re-enact the epic battle between Moors and Christians.
What to expect
On 2nd August, Pollença celebrates its patron saint, La Mare de Déu dels Àngels. In fact, celebrations start well over a week before the big day with a diverse programme of events for all ages. However, the main attraction is the mock battle between the Moors and the Christians on the feast day. It recalls the victory of the Pollensins over the Saracen Corsairs, who attacked the town early morning on 30th May 1550.
There is always a fantastic atmosphere as the battle plays out, with the clink of metal swords and convincing battle cries setting pulses racing. It typically starts at 19.00 in Plaça de l’Amoina and ends at the football ground of Can Escarrinxo. Many locals dress up either in white (Christians) or in colour (Moors). A firework display brings the fiesta to an explosive end.
