This Santa Catalina restaurant’s name means ‘light, vitality, and new beginnings’ in Swahili and is appropriate for this place that opened in March 2015.
Nuru has a super-stylish contemporary look and offers 60 covers, with an upper floor and chill-out roof terrace. The contemporary fusion cuisine is under the control of Santa Catalina-born chef ‘Chus’ (Jesús Pérez de la Fuente).
High-quality fresh seasonal ingredients, real flavour, and Asian influences are important elements of his excellent cuisine. The wine list includes Mallorcan and other interesting wines. Open Tuesdays to Saturdays for lunch and dinner. Reservation recommended.
How would you describe your cuisine (what style)?
Contemporary Fusion with a modest Asian/Mediterranean influence.
What do you think makes a restaurant successful?
A successful restaurant needs good food, a good location and a tight knit team of staff who are happy to work together. It needs to be like a family – Everyone has some bad days and there will always be some internal arguments but they need to be talked about and managed as soon as possible, just as one would in their own family. Happy staff means happy clients.
What is your personal favourite dish to eat and which one to cook?
My favourite one to cook is our Sashimi dishes, even though it’s not really cooked. And my favourite one to eat is any of my mother’s family dishes.
What do you think the next big culinary trend is likely to be?
For me it’s the Chinese Sechuan Cuisine and also Hawaiian styles.
What are your thoughts about the restaurant scene on Mallorca?
I think the scene has gotten a lot better in the past few years and I think Mallorca is starting to not only be a sun and tourism destination but also a gastronomic one – which is fantastic!
