Obsolete is an exclusive importer, wholesaler and interior design business focused on the restoration of old furniture and furnishings sourced from around Europe and the Orient. They believe that obsolescence lends objects a certain beauty and inspiration, and they carefully source, restore and pieces often on the cusp of becoming obsolete.
Owner Michael Roberts often uses reclaimed woods to create custom pieces, imbuing them with a sense of history, where its imperfections and past are emphasised and celebrated. Faded vintage, limited editions, bespoke designs and expert reproductions are all given a new lease of life under the Obsolete treatment.
The collections and services
Obsolete offers impressive collections of furniture, ranging from small rustic bedside tables and milking stools, to chunky dining tables and spacious sideboards. One-of-a-kind pieces are often reworked or rejuvenated to best bring out their essence. Collections of decorative objects are available too, from rustic Balearic bowls and vases to charming baskets and boxes from rural China.
They can also adapt and repurpose any furniture as desired, redesigning and modify models from their catalogue while maintaining their authentic artisanal appearance. Obsolete are happy to collaborate with interior designers to help realise their project or act as consultants for restaurants, hotels, etc.
Showrooms and Son Viscos Hotel
There are two superb showrooms where clients can peruse a large sample of the Obsolete collections, one on the edge of the pretty town of Valldemossa, and the other in Palma’s Santa Catalina neighbourhood in the church square of Sant Magí.
Also in the Valldemossa valley, clients can find the Son Viscos Agrotourism Hotel. Originally the family home of Michael Roberts and his wife, it has been converted into a five-room guesthouse, furnished throughout in the Obsolete ethos and where everything is available for sale.
