About Playa de Santa Ponsa
Playa de Santa Ponsa is the main beach in Santa Ponsa, a popular resort town about 20 kilometers from Palma on the southwest coast. Situated between two rocky points, Playa Santa Ponsa forms a protected bay with a long stretch of white sand and clear blue water. At 1300-meters long, it is also one of the longest beaches on the island.
Playa Santa Ponsa attracts an under 50 international tourist crowd, particularly German as well as English, and with families who appreciate the safer waters, easy access and host of nearby restaurants. Locals appreciate the large beach as well, but it’s not an exclusive beach, nor does it boast many higher end activities or accommodations, although they can be found further afield.
The water is shallow and calm, ideal for swimming and playing. Boats are anchored far off shore and the water is well marked with flags and buoys. All sorts of water sports from paddle boats, jet skis, kayaks to paragliding can be hired at the beach. Lounge chairs and umbrellas are available to rent or you can set your towel right on the sand. Playa Santa Ponsa has modest onsite facilities with showers, changing areas, and toilets.
The beach backs up to a small forest of pine trees and grass, a nice place to get some shade or have a picnic lunch. The long boardwalk connects with the park area and is filled with restaurants serving a range of food from Italian to Mallorcan to burgers and fries, cafe’s, shops and hotels. You’ll find the local tourist office here as well.
Playa Santa Ponsa is proud of its high standards of cleanliness and eco-responsibility. It was awarded the Blue Flag award by the Foundation for Environmental Education and a “Q” rating for high European quality.
