Deià’s only Michelin-starred restaurant is owned and run by German chef Josef Sauerschell and his Mallorcan maître d’ wife Leonor.
“Racó” is the Mallorcan Word for corner or nook – fitting for this restaurant’s privileged position. The romantic interior has comfortable wicker chairs, colourful local art, and a cosy mezzanine floor. In summer, soak up spectacular views of the village and Teix mountain from the large terrace, as you indulge in Mallorcan/Mediterranean cuisine and wine (Mallorcan, national, and international) from a thumping long list.
Professional service includes the wearing of white gloves. Top notch for a special occasion.
What do you think makes a restaurant successful?
Constancy and style.
What is your personal favourite dish to eat and which one to cook?
Duck with red cabbage for eating and skate in a lemon crust for cooking.

Albrecht Kellner (Brenners Park Hotel); Hotel Viura in la Rioja.
On a night off, where is your favourite place on Mallorca to eat?
The restaurant Bens d’Avall.
TripAdvisor: friend or foe, and why?
Foe, because it´s not real. My opinion is that complaints should be made in the moment.
How do you try to achieve work/life balance?
My profession is my hobby and luckily I have my wife in the restaurant, who is the soul of the place and I could not work without her.
What do you think the next big culinary trend is likely to be?
I believe going back to the classic, which has a lot of base and never tires.
What are your thoughts about the restaurant scene on Mallorca?
It´s really good but I don´t think it´s properly recognized or valued.
