Love the food and style of Tast Club and the other Tast eateries in Palma? Then you should enjoy Ram Bar – the latest opening from the respected Tast Group. Located on La Rambla in Mallorca’s capital, it’s a short walk from the Plaça Major underground car park.
Ram Bar has quickly become popular with locals, particularly business people at lunchtime; it’s easy to see why. The on-trend décor includes exposed brick walls, attractive wooden tables, leather chairs and banquette seating, and stylish lighting. The open-kitchen area and smart bar are focal points. There’s no terrace for al fresco eating, but the interior here is part of Ram Bar’s overall appeal.
Like Tast Club, the menu offers a fairly small choice of dishes, but with probably enough variety to satisfy most tastes; three dishes seem suitable for vegetarians.
Of the three salads, we tried the Burrata Caprese – a portion large enough for two or three people to share. The artichoke dish tried was not quite as good as the one we’ve enjoyed at Tast Club. The spinach and fresh cheese ravioli were satisfying and tasty.
Ram Bar also offers meats from the grill and the fillet steak tried was excellent, although its accompaniments were not particularly remarkable. Other noteworthy but untried grilled meats include the Ram burger and a one-kilo Porterhouse steak – for the insatiable carnivore.
Desserts shared were the spicy chocolate cake and a strawberry Pavlova – both of which were enjoyed.
The limited number of wines on the list are all Spanish (but no Mallorcan) and all the same price. Choose by the glass, standard bottle, or magnum.
Service is attentive and efficient, which is essential in an eatery that attracts a good lunch crowd – often composed of groups. Like Tast Club, this is a good place for ordering a few plates and putting them in the middle of the generously sized tables to share with your friends or colleagues.
