An easy drive from Palma (around 45 minutes) takes you to a hidden gem close to Manacor. La Reserva Rotana is a small elegant hotel in a 17th-century manor house, surrounded by the tranquil countryside of the agricultural area known as Sa Vall. It has its own 9-hole golf course and vineyards, is a picturesque venue for weddings, and is home to this fine-dining restaurant.
In summer, both kitchen and diners move from the elegant interior to the shaded large hillside terrace, with dreamy views. In cooler weather, meals are served in the attractively decorated Sa Rotana dining room, which looks onto the garden.
The refined Mediterranean cuisine from chef Christian Denz uses organic produce from the estate. Restaurant manager Erika Giertlova runs the professional service team with quiet efficiency. Lunch is informal, with a bistro menu of grilled meats and fish, salads and pastas.
At night, the cuisine is a little more elaborate, with à la carte dishes, a three-course set dinner menu (which changes daily), and a tasting menu. On summer Friday and Tuesday nights they offer a BBQ buffet, with live music.
The cellar includes their own Rotana wines: Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, and two coupages; it would be a pity to dine here and not taste the fruits of their own vineyard.
The restaurant (and hotel) closes over winter and re-opens in spring.
