Only a few steps from the church square of Consell lies the old Ribas family manor. Wine has been produced here for 300 years. The imposing property has been renovated in recent years and equipped with the latest winemaking technology. This place should be on every visit list for wine lovers. The heart of this stunning winery is its vineyard in Torrent Fals, a very old stony riverbed.
The proven formula ‘Old Vines – New technology – Good Wine’ also works perfectly with this wine. Bodega Ribas slightly differs from other wineries in Mallorca. Conceptually, a balanced mix of excellent wine, wine tourism, and professional sales for Mallorcan gastronomy, was key to success from the beginning. Bodega Ribas´s production is always sold out by subscription before bottling. This means true excellence. Selected wine dealers from all over the world must order in advance – with a quantity limit – to get Ribas wines for the upcoming year. Despite all this, anybody can fill his own plastic bottles directly from the bodega.
50% Manto Negro, 25% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Merlot.
This deep red invites the viewer with purple reflections. Fruity intense plum and currant, and herbal notes of coriander and thyme, captivate the nose. The wine impresses the palate with light tannins and a balanced structure. This continues until the finish and beyond.
A typical Sío, as it is known and loved.
Ribas de Cabrera 2012
60% Manto Negro, 30% Syrah & 10% Merlot.
This dense wine immediately attracts us. Bouquet and colour are profoundly balanced. Despite its young age, mystery already resonates in the glass. This wine certainly needs a few more years to develop its full power. Give it the decanter. Ripe fruits such as figs and raspberries, as well as Mediterranean spices, are released by so doing. On the palate it surprises with fine elegance. Astonishing finish with finesse!
A great island wine set to mature a little bit more.
Desconfio de la gente que no bebe… 2012
95% Manto Negro & 5% Syrah.
The 5% Syrah grapes improve almost colourless Manto Negro and help the wine to become an elegant red in the glass. The extraordinary bouquet has many facets. Blackcurrant, cranberry, and blackberry with a small dose of ‘barrique’ meet the nose. A pinch of balsamic notes and spices is also present. On the palate, this wine comes like a bull attacking the red flag.
Try it, otherwise you cannot say anything about it. Pretty freaky!
